Guidelines for Medical Missionary Practice in Honduras (GMMPH)

Practicing medicine in a foreign country while being trained in a high-resource setting is a unique challenge. I have heard from many U.S. medical providers serving in Honduras that this causes an uncertainty in medical best practices making it difficult for them to know if they are truly providing their patients with the best care available. Conversely, a good amount of foreign medical practices have not yet integrated more recent research into their methods of diagnosis or treatment. Often there is not a concentrated effort to find a middle ground due to a lack of available time, the short-term nature of most Honduran medical missions, or a lack of appreciation of the great need.

My goal is to work with both US and Honduran providers to combine the best practices of both countries into evidence-based guidelines. Thereby improving and standardizing the quality of treatment provided by US medical missionaries in Honduras.
